Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Youth Empowerment Initiative
In Lindi Municipality, Tanzania, the community faces an opportunity for economic growth due to the upcoming $40 billion Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, which will include the construction of a liquefaction plant. However, many local youth lack the skills and knowledge necessary to fully participate in this development. The potential for job creation in the Liquefied Natural Gas energy sector is significant, but without targeted education and training, local youth may not be prepared to seize these opportunities. This skills gap could lead to high unemployment rates and missed opportunities for economic growth within the community.
Recognizing these challenges, the Tanzania Awareness Support Initiative Liquefied Natural Gas Youth Empowerment Initiative was launched to equip local youth with the skills, knowledge, and awareness they need to participate in the Liquefied Natural Gas project. The initiative focuses on building technical and vocational skills, raising awareness about the Liquefied Natural Gas industry, and promoting entrepreneurship, ensuring that the youth can take full advantage of the job opportunities and business prospects arising from the Liquefied Natural Gas project.

Our Impact to Date
Since its launch, TASI’s Liquefied Natural Gas Youth Empowerment Initiative has made significant progress in preparing the youth of Lindi Municipality for the emerging LNG-related opportunities:
Increased Awareness: Over 300 youth have participated in community workshops and information sessions about the Liquefied Natural Gas project. These outreach efforts have raised awareness about the economic, technical, and environmental aspects of Liquefied Natural Gas, preparing the community for the changes the project will bring.
Skills Training: More than 100 youth have received training in essential technical skills, such as welding, electrical work, and safety management. This hands-on training is designed to help them secure jobs within the Liquefied Natural Gas sector once the project is operational.
Entrepreneurship Development: Over 80 youth have been trained in entrepreneurship, starting local businesses that provide services to the Liquefied Natural Gas sector. These small businesses are creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.
Mentorship and Industry Exposure: In partnership with international energy companies, TASI has facilitated mentorship programs for 50 youth, allowing them to gain direct exposure to industry professionals and build career paths in the Liquefied Natural Gas sector.
Through these efforts, TASI has empowered local youth to actively engage with the Liquefied Natural Gas project and participate in its development, helping to create a skilled workforce that is ready to meet the demands of the Liquefied Natural Gas sector.
